Instagram brings its Edits video editor to Mac

Instagram has launched a free Mac version of its Edits video editor for creators.

Edits first appeared on phones as Instagram’s answer to ByteDance’s CapCut.

The desktop app adds a multi-track timeline and detailed editing tools, including keyframes, audio waveforms and color controls.

It supports vertical and horizontal video, automatic captions in multiple languages, and watermark-free exports up to 4K.

Creators can publish directly to Instagram, with options such as tagging and adding a location.

Meta says Edits has more than 50 million active users, and the Mac release brings it into closer competition with CapCut, which is available on Mac and Windows.

Instagram plans weekly desktop updates and says it is working on letting people move between Mac and phone while editing the same project; there is no Windows version currently.
