North Vancouver woman rescued from fast-moving creek during B.C. storm
North Vancouver resident Brittany Craig was swept into a creek on Friday while fixing the water line to her home in the Woodlands community near Deep Cove.
Heavy rain had turned the creek into a fast-moving river, and the surge pushed her into the water when she moved a rock.
Craig held onto a log, called 9-1-1 and waved her red sweatshirt to alert rescuers.
Firefighters lowered a rescuer by rope and pulled her to safety, even as a tree fell nearby.
The storm also knocked out power across British Columbia: about 87,000 customers were still without electricity on Sunday morning, after more than 190,000 had lost power since the storm began.
Parts of Vancouver Island received up to 210 millimetres of rain since Thursday, and rising waterways prompted high streamflow advisories across much of the island and the south and central coasts.
More atmospheric river systems are expected to bring rain to coastal areas in the coming days, while some customers may remain without power as crews deal with damage and access challenges.
