Falling rock kills driver and injures three in southern Spain

A falling rock killed a 41-year-old driver on Monday afternoon near Benaoján, in Málaga province, southern Spain.

The rock struck the car on the MA-8400, a road linking the town with Estación de Benaoján.

Three passengers were injured, but none had serious injuries; they were taken for medical care.

The crash happened during heavy rain, after storms had affected the area since Saturday.

Rain warnings were in force in the Serranía de Ronda, where rainfall reached close to 30 litres per square metre in an hour.

The emergency agency said more than 600 incidents linked to the storm had been handled across Andalusia.

Authorities urged drivers to take extra care, and the Guardia Civil is investigating the crash.
