Samsung posts 107.4 trillion won third-quarter operating profit

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics reported 107.4 trillion won in third-quarter operating profit, its first quarter above 100 trillion won.

Revenue was 195.3 trillion won, and operating profit rose 783% from a year earlier.

Memory chips generated 106.5 trillion won, or 99.2% of profit, as sales of high-bandwidth and server memory rose and chip prices increased.

These chips are used in AI systems and other computing infrastructure, where demand has been growing.

Other business areas were less profitable: Samsung’s device division made an operating loss, though its display and Harman units reported profits.

Samsung plans about 30 trillion won in cash dividends for the quarter, and estimates total shareholder returns of 90 trillion to 110 trillion won for 2024–2026.

It has also announced a partnership with French AI startup Mistral AI for semiconductor operations, while details of its future chip supply plans were a focus of its results presentation.

If we assume 110 trillion won in remaining shareholder returns, a total of 70 trillion won in cash dividends and 40 trillion won in share buybacks and cancellations would be possible.
