Planeta Prize marks 75th edition with nine finalists
The Planeta Prize is marking its 75th edition in Spain, where it was created to encourage reading and help writers earn a living from literature.
This year, 1,424 manuscripts were submitted, and nine finalists were selected rather than the usual ten because one entry had already been published.
The finalists’ stories return to historical novels and crime thrillers, after last year’s shortlist included youth romance and dystopian fantasy.
The winner will receive €1 million, while the runner-up will get €200,000.
The prize’s president says its books have sold more than 47 million copies across its editions, and he points to sales as evidence of its reach.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Barcelona on Thursday.
