ANUIES seeks more funding for southern Mexico universities in 2027

ANUIES is seeking more funding for 2027 for universities and other higher education institutions in southern and southeastern Mexico.

The region’s 47 institutions span seven states, including Chiapas, Oaxaca and Veracruz.

The association is discussing funding with education officials and lawmakers as they consider Mexico’s 2027 federal budget.

Universities face budget pressures while taking on more responsibilities and meeting rising public demands.

Their priorities include student mental health, safety and adapting to artificial intelligence, which is changing teaching, research and administration.

At a regional meeting in Chetumal, participants proposed a shared network to build institutions’ technology capabilities and tackle regional problems.

ANUIES will continue seeking sufficient, timely and sustainable funding during the budget discussions.
