Moutet beats Humbert in Lyon return after wrist injury layoff

Corentin Moutet beat Ugo Humbert in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Lyon, France.

The French player won 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 after three hours and 21 minutes, despite cramps.

The match marked Moutet’s return to the ATP Tour after nearly seven weeks away.

He had retired from his first-round match at the US Open in September because of wrist pain, then skipped tournaments in Asia to recover.

At a press conference, a question about whether his wrist was fully healed prompted him to ask a journalist if his eyesight was impaired.

Moutet then explained that he had been in pain since the start of the year, but was no longer hurting and could not know if the injury was permanently healed.

He said time will tell whether the wrist has recovered for good and that he is doing everything he can.

His next match is against French player Félix Balshaw, who won his first-round match against Jaime Faria.
