Scott McLaughlin hopes for another Bathurst 1000 win
Scott McLaughlin wants another chance to win the Bathurst 1000, a major Australian motor race.
The New Zealander won it in 2019 with co-driver Alexandre Premat for DJR Team Penske.
He moved to the United States in 2020 to race in IndyCar, but still follows Supercars and says Bathurst makes him miss home.
A return is possible but looks unlikely because he must prioritize Team Penske testing and manage sponsor and manufacturer commitments.
The introduction of IndyCar's new IR-28 car will make his schedule busier from 2027 to 2028.
McLaughlin's dream is to race with Shane van Gisbergen, but van Gisbergen's NASCAR season makes that difficult.
McLaughlin begins his 2027 IndyCar campaign in St Petersburg on March 8.
Scott McLaughlin says he would like to return to the Bathurst 1000 and try to win it for a second time.
The New Zealander won the race in 2019 with Alexandre Premat for the then-known DJR Team Penske.
He said a return is unlikely because of his commitments to Team Penske, testing, sponsorship and manufacturer considerations.
McLaughlin said his ideal partner for a wildcard entry would be fellow New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen.
Van Gisbergen’s NASCAR Cup Series schedule makes a Bathurst appearance difficult.
