One suspect detained after jewellery store robbery in Gran Canaria

Three masked people allegedly robbed a jewellery store at Las Arenas shopping centre in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Tuesday night.

They reportedly broke display cases and set off fire extinguishers while taking jewellery.

Shopping centre security held one suspect until National Police arrived and detained them.

Police are still trying to identify and locate the other two people involved.

The robbery happened near the centre’s closing time, a feature shared with other recent jewellery store robberies in Gran Canaria.

One similar robbery took place at Las Terrazas shopping centre in Telde in September, where stolen jewellery was valued at about €50,000.

The investigation remains open as police work to establish what happened and find the other suspects.
