Short film warns of LNG projects’ risks to the Gulf of California
The campaign ¿Ballenas o Gas?
has released a seven-minute film about proposed liquefied natural gas projects in the Gulf of California.
British director Hugh Pearson made the film, narrated in Spanish by singer Ximena Sariñana and in English by Jane Fonda.
The projects include plants planned for Guaymas and Puerto Libertad, in the Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa.
Campaign groups and local communities say the plants, pipelines and large gas carriers could harm whales and other marine life, as well as the livelihoods of families who depend on the sea.
The campaign says one of three proposed plants has been cancelled, while it continues to oppose the others.
The film is available to watch free online and aims to raise awareness of the campaign’s concerns.
