Indonesia Records Its Highest October Temperature Anomaly in 2026
Indonesia’s October 2026 temperatures were unusually high, according to the country’s weather agency, BMKG.
The national average was 1.12°C above the 1991–2020 October average, which is about 27°C.
That national record does not mean October was Jakarta’s hottest month on record, because temperature records differ between monitoring stations.
BMKG says the heat in Jakarta was linked to stronger sunlight over Java, few daytime clouds and the city’s built environment.
Asphalt, concrete and vehicle emissions can trap heat, while limited green space means less cooling.
BMKG expects Jakarta to be cooler in November than it was in October.
Indonesia’s October 2026 temperature anomaly was 1.12°C above the 1991–2020 average, the highest October anomaly recorded nationally, BMKG said.
The average temperature for the comparison period was about 27°C.
BMKG said the national record does not mean October 2026 was Jakarta’s hottest month on record.
At Jakarta’s Kemayoran station, the highest October anomaly was recorded in October 2024, at 1.25°C above normal.
BMKG attributed Jakarta’s hotter conditions to the Sun’s position, limited daytime cloud cover and the urban heat island effect.
- Who
- Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the record.
- What
- October 2026 had a national temperature anomaly of 1.12°C above the 1991–2020 average, the highest recorded for October.
- When
- October 2026.
- Where
- Indonesia; the report also discussed conditions in Jakarta.
- Why
- BMKG linked Jakarta’s heat to the Sun’s position, limited daytime cloud cover and the urban heat island effect. The sources do not state a specific cause for the national anomaly.
This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
Tanjung Priok station recorded its highest January temperature anomaly, at 1.83°C above the January normal.
Kemayoran station recorded its highest October temperature anomaly, at 1.25°C above the October normal.
Indonesia recorded its highest national October temperature anomaly, at 1.12°C above the 1991–2020 average.
BMKG predicted Jakarta temperatures would be lower than in October.
- National October anomaly

- Comparison-period average
- About 27°C
- Kemayoran station
- Highest October anomaly was 1.25°C in October 2024
- Tanjung Priok station
- Highest January anomaly was 1.83°C in January 2003
- Jakarta forecast
- November temperatures expected to be lower than October
What people are saying
October 2026 was recorded nationally as the October with the highest temperature anomaly, at +1.12°C compared with the 1991–2020 normal average of around 27°C
This does not necessarily mean October 2026 was the hottest month ever recorded in Jakarta, because the highest temperature records can differ at each observation station
The dominance of asphalt, building concrete, vehicle emissions, and the lack of green open space absorb and trap heat for longer, including into the night
Temperatures in Jakarta in November will not be as high as in October
