Itch.io Adds Filters for Games Disclosing Generative AI Use
Indie game platform Itch.io has added a filter to hide games that disclose generative AI use in search results.
The change comes as the number of game pages created on the site each day has doubled over the past two months, to 6,000, according to Itch.io.
The platform also said it had deleted a couple of terabytes of AI-generated spam.
Itch.io requires creators to disclose AI use, and its rules allow it when the use is stated and adds substantial value to the experience.
The new filter helps users avoid disclosed AI-made games, but Itch.io is not banning AI-generated content outright.
It is also requiring AI disclosures for tabletop games, books, comics and soundtracks, while bulk spam uploads may be removed from search listings.
