Romania selects Thales for four deployable air-surveillance radar systems

Romania’s Ministry of National Defense selected Thales to supply four deployable radar systems for air surveillance and aircraft approaches.

The systems are intended for both civil and military use across Romania.

They will help controllers track aircraft and guide them toward runways, including when visibility is poor or fixed radar infrastructure is unavailable.

The package combines primary and secondary surveillance radar with systems that identify aircraft and support precision approaches.

The radars are designed to work with civil and NATO standards, giving operators a more complete picture of air traffic.

This matters because Romania is seeking stronger airspace surveillance and coordination with NATO on its eastern flank.

Thales and Romanian teams will support deployment and integration, but no timetable for installation was given.
