Pink Elephants launches support for fathers grieving pregnancy loss

Sunshine Coast radio host Luke Forrest spoke publicly about his family’s pregnancy losses after years of hiding his grief.

He and his wife, Emily, had two miscarriages while trying for a baby, then experienced three more losses after their son Jack was born.

Forrest said he had thought he needed to be strong for his wife and son, but speaking on his radio show helped him express his emotions.

Pink Elephants has created a support program specifically for fathers grieving early pregnancy loss.

Miscarriage is a pregnancy loss before 20 weeks, and is estimated to affect one in four pregnancies.

Fathers can also grieve the future they imagined, but may have little space to express that loss.

Recognising grief can support better mental health, while the program aims to give dads more support.

When we’re not allowed to grieve, when we can’t share that we feel we’ve lost something, that creates that isolation and worse mental health outcomes.
