Dinesh Karthik says IPL should keep Impact Player rule for 2027
Dinesh Karthik, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s batting coach and mentor, wants the Indian Premier League to keep its Impact Player rule for the 2027 season.
The rule lets teams use an additional player during a match.
Karthik says franchises selected their squads with that option in mind, so removing it before the current cycle ends could leave some teams at a disadvantage.
He says the rule initially helped create high-scoring games but has gradually become less relevant.
He also believes it has reduced opportunities for India to develop all-rounders.
Karthik argues that tournament rules should be introduced or removed at the start or end of a cycle, not midway through one.
He says the rule’s future should be decided after the current cycle concludes.

What people are saying
So it makes a lot of sense.
But I just feel that, as a rule, whatever new rule you want to bring in, you need to bring it in at the start of a cycle and do away with it at the end of a cycle if you don't want to (continue).
But it definitely decreased the chances of India as a cricketing country producing all-rounders,
But in general, I do feel it was quite good at the start, but right now it's losing the relevance and importance that it probably provided for the fans and for the players as well,
