China Coast Guard Holds Training Near Ren'ai and Xianbin Reefs

A Chinese Coast Guard group held maritime enforcement training near the Ren'ai and Xianbin reefs.

The group included the Dong'an and Nanxun ships and the Sanzhou'ao boat.

The exercise practised responding to foreign vessels entering the area, with drills in tracking, route control and small-boat manoeuvres.

In a simulated case, officers boarded a foreign fishing boat and found it had used illegal fishing methods.

They confiscated its gear and catch, then warned it to leave; this was part of the drill, not a reported real incident.

The training also covered evidence-gathering equipment, water cannons and drones, and China Coast Guard staff said it was meant to improve coordination and readiness for incidents involving the reefs.
