Counting begins for 11 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council seats

Counting began Tuesday for 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh’s Legislative Council, the state’s upper house.

The seats include five graduate and six teacher constituencies, and voting took place on October 23.

Counting is being held at seven centres under tight security, with CCTV cameras and video recording in use.

Ballots are being sorted and counted in stages, a process that can take time.

The 11 seats are currently held by six BJP members, three Samajwadi Party members and two independents, and their terms end on December 6.

The timing of the results is uncertain: one report said they were expected by Tuesday evening, while another said teacher-seat results could come late Tuesday or Wednesday morning and graduate-seat results on Wednesday.
