Daegu Court Fines Two for Damaging Election Banners

Daegu Court Fines Two for Damaging Election Banners

A court in Daegu fined two people over election banner damage ahead of South Korea’s June 3 local elections.

A delivery driver was fined 300,000 won for damaging a banner three times in the city’s Sincheon-dong area in late May.

He said the damage happened during deliveries and that he had no intention of affecting the election.

The court said the damage harmed election fairness and voters’ access to information.

A care center director was fined 1 million won for telling an employee to damage a banner outside the center because it blocked a sign.

The court considered that both defendants admitted what they had done and showed remorse; it also noted that the driver had compensated for the damage and the affected person did not seek punishment.

The court issued fines, and the case reports no further proceedings.
