Indonesia Partners With UKI to Train Migrant Workers
Indonesia’s migrant worker ministry has partnered with Universitas Kristen Indonesia to prepare people for jobs abroad.
The agreement includes developing a Migrant Center at the university to help prospective workers build skills, learn languages, gain professional certificates and access placement and protection services.
The ministry now handles both regulation and operations for placing and protecting Indonesian workers overseas, including those going abroad for work or internships.
Officials say many applicants need stronger technical skills, foreign-language ability and certifications to match international job requirements.
The partnership aims to narrow that skills gap and help workers move into medium- and high-skilled jobs rather than relying mainly on low-skilled work.
The government hopes the center will help create a wider system for preparing skilled, professional and protected workers for international jobs.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection signed a cooperation agreement with Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI) to prepare Indonesian migrant workers for global jobs.
The agreement includes developing and launching a UKI Migrant Center for prospective migrant workers.
The center will support skills development, language training, professional certification, job placement and protection.
Minister Mukhtarudin said the effort aims to close gaps between graduates’ skills and the needs of international employers.
UKI said it has professional certification, legal aid and career services, as well as international partnerships.
