Turkey detains 16 in investigation into alleged Islamic State financing
Turkish authorities detained 16 people in a coordinated operation in two provinces, led from Ankara, on October 27.
The investigation concerns suspected financing for Islamic State, also known as Daesh, which Turkey designates a terrorist organization.
Investigators say those under scrutiny may have helped fund a person whose assets were frozen over aid campaigns for women and children held at Syria’s al-Hol camp.
Eighteen people were identified as suspects after authorities reviewed financial and phone records.
Searches uncovered documents and digital materials, and officials seized cash, foreign currency and gold worth about 2.135 million Turkish lira.
