Hanwha General Insurance launches cover focused on pregnancy and childbirth

Hanwha General Insurance has launched a pregnancy insurance policy in South Korea for people aged 20 to 42.

Unlike traditional fetal insurance, which focuses on the fetus and child, this policy centres on the mother's health.

It covers diagnosis, surgery and hospital stays for conditions including pregnancy-related high blood pressure and diabetes.

It also includes testing costs for mental health problems and sleep disorders that may arise after childbirth.

Customers who pay the premium in one instalment can get up to three years of cover, from pregnancy through the period of recovery after birth.

The policy is available through Hanwha's direct insurance website and the Carrot app.

With low birth rates making it harder for insurers to find new customers, companies are developing products for women's health needs at different stages of life.
