De Luca says Italy’s next elections will be held on May 9 and 10

Cateno De Luca, leader of the Sud chiama Nord party, said Italy’s next elections will be held on May 9 and 10.

He said the dates came up at a meeting in Rome attended by people from both the centre-right and centre-left.

De Luca described the gathering as a spiritist séance and did not name who took part.

He said April matters because lawmakers will then reach the service period needed to qualify for a pension.

He also said there would be time to organise the elections before summer, when people may have other plans.

De Luca has recently reached an agreement with the right-wing Brothers of Italy party to join the centre-right for the next elections.

His statement did not include official confirmation of the election dates.
