Water main failure sends a jet into the air in Udine
A large jet of water burst through the road on Via Gemona in Udine, Italy, on Wednesday, October 21.
Passers-by said it rose about 10 metres, drawing attention from people nearby.
The water came out of the asphalt near the junction with Via Deciani.
Reports differ on the cause: one headline says a courier hit an exposed pipe, while another says the origin of the break was still unclear.
Udine local police attended the scene, and one account said the situation later returned to normal.
The burst has renewed attention on maintenance of the city's water network and how quickly crews respond to faults.
