42 of 88 quiz contestants did not know which party Marcel Dettling leads
On Swiss public broadcaster SRF’s quiz show “1 gegen 100,” 42 of 88 contestants answered incorrectly when asked which party Marcel Dettling leads.
Dettling became president of the Swiss People’s Party (SVP) in March 2024.
The contestant Matteo, a 25-year-old student from Domat/Ems, chose the SVP and saw his prize money rise from 12,000 to 96,000 francs.
Political scientist Michael Hermann called the result notable, but said it reflected high voter abstention in Switzerland, where about half of people vote.
He also said Switzerland’s direct democracy can lead people to focus more on political issues than on politicians.
Hermann added that SVP figures such as Toni Brunner and Christoph Mörgeli had once been more widely known, while the party’s current personnel seem less distinctive.
The reports give no further developments.
