Dobrindt gives Berlin police officers honorary coins after Halloween unrest

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt visited police in Berlin late Saturday after Halloween protests and unrest.

The officers were stationed near Hackescher Markt, where demonstrators, rioters and police had clashed earlier.

A Berlin police commander said the situation had been challenging, especially for younger officers, but police had kept it under control.

Only a few officers suffered minor injuries, according to the account of the night.

Dobrindt gave officers gold-coloured honorary coins from the Interior Ministry as a personal thank-you for their work.

He also invited the unit to have a beer at the ministry and asked a staff member to arrange a time.

Police remained on standby as the night continued.
