Florida State fires Mike Norvell and begins search for a new coach
Florida State fired head coach Mike Norvell after losing 36-24 to Clemson and starting the season 3-5.
Norvell went 41-39 in six-plus seasons at the school, including a 13-0 regular season in 2023.
The team’s results fell sharply after that run, and Florida State has struggled in recent seasons.
The school is expected to owe Norvell between $47 million and $50.3 million, though a future job could reduce the payment.
Assistant coach Rick Stockstill will lead the team as interim coach while Florida State searches for a permanent replacement.
The search comes as the athletics department faces substantial debt and the cost of paying Norvell and his assistants.
Florida State’s remaining schedule includes games against Boston College, Pitt, NC State and Florida.
