Jayden Short's proposed move from Richmond to Collingwood falls through

Richmond defender Jayden Short's proposed move to Collingwood fell through on the final day of the 2026 AFL trade period.

Short, 30, wanted to explore leaving the Tigers, where he has played 211 games and won two premierships.

Collingwood could not meet Richmond's demands, despite offering a second-round draft pick and discussing other possibilities.

The clubs also faced limits involving list spots and the salary cap, according to Collingwood list boss Justin Leppitsch.

Short is contracted to Richmond until the end of 2027, and his manager said the gap between the clubs' positions was too wide.

Short is set to remain at Richmond, which said he is welcome back.

Collingwood completed deals for Lachie Neale, Jesse Hogan and ruckman Flynn Riley during the trade period.

We knew what Richmond wanted and what Collingwood was prepared to give up and there was too big of a divide.
