Sumatra recovery efforts include plans to reduce future disaster risks
After about 11 months, most recovery work in disaster-hit Sumatra has been completed.
The work covers basic services and facilities in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, and Coordinating Minister Sugiono praised the task force leading it.
He said climate risks should be built into recovery plans because rainfall patterns may change, with wetter conditions north of the equator and drier ones to the south.
Further heavy rain has already caused floods in parts of the three provinces, and sediment in rivers has raised the risk of overflow and damaged some repaired infrastructure.
Interior Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian said 137 sediment-affected rivers need faster attention and asked the Public Works Ministry to speed up their cleanup and treatment.
Central and local governments are expected to coordinate, finish remaining recovery work and improve readiness for future disasters.
