ASML pledges €100 million for Rijksmuseum branch in Eindhoven

ASML will contribute €100 million over 20 years to a planned Rijksmuseum branch in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands.

The chip-making equipment company will pay €5 million a year once the museum opens, which is expected between 2032 and 2034.

The museum will be built near the Dommel river and Eindhoven’s train station, in a renovated park in the city centre.

It is expected to show works from the Rijksmuseum’s collection, including paintings by Rembrandt and Vermeer, as well as art by artists from Brabant.

The project aims to strengthen culture and the appeal of the Brainport region, which is known for technology and industry.

The city has asked for a more ambitious plan than first proposed, and cleaning polluted soil is expected to add costs.

Eindhoven will bring a cooperation agreement to its city council next year, while plans and discussions about further funding continue.

Success is also inspiration and connection. And therefore culture. The Brainport region is a world-class region. It also deserves world-class cultural institutions.

It is very special that you are joining something that has not yet been fully defined. That shows a pioneering spirit and confidence.

We are not coming to Brabant for nothing! This province has a rich culture with good painters and craftspeople. Ceramics are also made very well here. And of course we want to show that art and knowledge.
