ResMed shares are down 10% ahead of quarterly results

ResMed shares are about 10% lower than a year ago, and the company is due to report first-quarter results on Friday.

Analysts forecast revenue of about US$1.39 billion, up roughly 4%, and adjusted earnings growth of about 5.5%.

The forecasts point to slower sales growth than last financial year, when revenue rose 10%.

ResMed sold its MatrixCare software business, and sales of its Astral ventilators are suspended after a safety issue, which could weigh on reported growth.

Investors will be watching demand for sleep apnoea treatments and whether the company can manage higher freight and component costs.

Sleep apnoea affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, but ResMed estimates that fewer than 20% of people with the condition in the United States have been diagnosed or treated.

More diagnoses could create room for ResMed to grow, and the company is developing home testing options to help people access treatment sooner; the results on Friday will offer an update on its performance.
