China’s industrial profits rose 14.4% in September

China’s industrial firms increased profits by 14.4% in September compared with a year earlier, the fastest rise in three months.

For the first nine months of the year, profits were up 15.5%, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics.

Electronics and high-tech manufacturing provided major support, with demand for AI computing and advanced technology products helping lift earnings.

Higher producer prices also contributed, as energy and related input costs rose.

The gains were uneven across industries: mining and electronics did well, while the power, heat and gas supply sector’s profits fell over the first nine months.

Weak consumer spending and fierce competition continue to weigh on companies that depend on China’s domestic market.

China’s industrial recovery remains uneven, and officials say they plan to support domestic demand and strengthen growth.
