Vasco plans to host Flamengo at Nilton Santos after Maracanã dispute

Vasco plans to host Flamengo at Nilton Santos for their Brazilian league derby on October 29.

The stadium is home to Botafogo, and Vasco has an agreement allowing it to use the ground through 2028.

The move follows a dispute over the Maracanã, where Vasco wanted to play its recent match against Boca Juniors but needed a court ruling to use the stadium.

Vasco says the other clubs broke an agreement by rejecting several of its requests to play at the Maracanã.

São Januário was not approved for the derby by the specialist stadium police unit, so it was not available as an alternative.

Under the Nilton Santos agreement, Botafogo will receive a fixed rental payment and the food and drink revenue from the match.

The derby is expected to go ahead at Nilton Santos, though the clubs’ disagreement over stadium use has also involved legal action.

I want Vasco vs Flamengo to be at São Januário; I don't want to relocate. I'm not asking for anything extraordinary, because we play matches there that are similar or even worse. We have all the help from BEPE.
