Sweden restricts ChatGPT and Claude for government work

Swedish officials have restricted ChatGPT and Claude for government work over concerns about how the tools handle data.

The decision followed a review by the Swedish Transport Administration, which found problematic use of AI tools without proper enterprise contracts.

Sensitive information entered into the chatbots could be stored and used to train future models, officials warned.

Without formal agreements, government agencies may also find it harder to audit the services and ensure compliance with European data protection rules.

Microsoft Copilot remains authorized under stricter security controls, and a limited number of employees can still use ChatGPT and Claude through a specialized secure platform.

Sweden had previously banned DeepSeek over privacy concerns and potential vulnerabilities.
