Turkey’s Osman Gazi platform aims to double Black Sea gas output
Turkey plans to send its first floating gas platform, Osman Gazi, to the Black Sea on October 17, 2026.
The platform is headed to the Sakarya Gas Field, about 170 kilometres off the coast.
It is expected to raise daily production from 9.5 million to 20 million cubic metres once it begins operating.
Turkey’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar says this could increase the number of homes supplied with domestically produced gas from 4 million to 8 million.
The platform is designed to work around the clock for 20 years, processing gas offshore and sending it to the national network.
Production is planned to begin in early 2027, after the platform is sent out and its flare system is used to ignite the first gas by the end of 2026.
Turkey’s Osman Gazi floating production platform is expected to double output from the Sakarya gas field to 20 million cubic metres a day.
Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the platform would leave Filyos for the Black Sea on 17 October 2026.
The platform is planned to begin production in early 2027 and is expected to supply gas for up to 8 million homes, up from 4 million.
It is designed to operate around the clock for 20 years, about 170 kilometres from shore.
The platform is forecast to contribute $3.5 billion a year to Turkey’s economy at current gas prices.

What people are saying
With Osman Gazi, which will work around the clock for 20 years in the heart of the Black Sea, we will double domestic natural gas production at the Sakarya Gas Field and reach 20 million cubic metres per day.
This will increase the number of homes whose natural gas needs we meet with domestic resources from 4 million to 8 million.
On Saturday, 17 October, we will send our giant platform from Filyos to the Black Sea.
