Shipbuilding in Genoa and Savona generated about €2 billion in 2024
A first study found that shipbuilding and repairs in Genoa and Savona generated about €2 billion in 2024.
The work covers shipbuilding, ship repairs, boatbuilding and boat repairs in ports on Italy’s western Ligurian coast.
It also counted more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, across over 60 specialisations.
The survey covered 87 businesses, with 63 responding, and found that production value had risen in both areas since 2021.
The industry relies on specialist suppliers and shared facilities, but busy dry docks and limited space constrain capacity, while firms report difficulty finding skilled workers.
Port and industry groups have set up a permanent observatory to track the sector’s changes and inform decisions about its development.
