Google launches Fitbit Edge as successor to the Charge 6

Google has launched the Fitbit Edge, a fitness tracker that reviewers describe as the successor to the Charge 6.

The Charge 6 came out in 2023, and the Edge retains its slim, tracker-focused design while adding a larger, brighter screen.

The Edge adds onboard GPS and an altimeter, so it can track location and elevation without relying on a paired phone.

It also offers health and workout tracking, works with Android and iPhones, and is rated for up to seven days of battery life.

The tracker costs $179 and has a replaceable battery, a first for a Fitbit tracker.

It loses NFC payments and offers fewer smart features than a Pixel Watch, while reviewers also note that automatic workout tracking and notifications can be unreliable.

An optional Google Health Premium subscription costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year and adds personalized reports, training tips and workout plans.
