Glacier National Park seeks tips after hikers approach mountain goats

Glacier National Park rangers are investigating a confrontation between two groups of hikers on the Hidden Lake Overlook Trail.

One group was seen leaving the marked trail and approaching mountain goats, prompting the other group to confront them.

Video shows the hikers shouting and threatening one another before they separated.

Park guidance says visitors should stay at least 25 yards from mountain goats and other wildlife and remain on designated trails.

These rules help protect visitors and animals, while staying on trails also safeguards fragile alpine plants.

Rangers are reviewing video and asking anyone who recognizes the hikers or has more footage to contact the National Park Service tip line; officials may consider citations or legal action.
