Cyclone Murasu threatens Andhra Pradesh as nearby states prepare for heavy rain

Cyclone Murasu is expected to reach Andhra Pradesh on November 3, with winds of 100–110 kmph and stronger gusts.

The storm formed over the Bay of Bengal and is forecast to cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur.

Andhra Pradesh is still dealing with damage from Cyclone Arnab, which made landfall on October 28.

Officials across several states are preparing for heavy rain and dangerous winds, including in Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Telangana.

Andhra Pradesh officials have been told to prepare rescue teams and equipment, while low-lying areas in southern Odisha are being evacuated.

Schools and colleges in Chennai and Tiruvallur are closed on November 2, and Telangana has issued weather alerts for 11 districts.

The storm could damage about 15,128 electricity poles, according to preliminary estimates, while Odisha is also searching for 10 people missing after Arnab.
