Spain approves €201 million plan for up to 2,500 affordable rental homes

Spain's government has approved €201 million in support for private developers to build affordable rental homes.

The plan could produce up to 2,500 homes across Spain, including projects in Málaga, Seville, Valencia, Cantabria and Guadalajara.

The homes will be on land owned by Casa 47, the public agency responsible for managing the properties.

Casa 47 will set rents and rental conditions, rather than leaving those decisions to the developers.

Rent payments must not exceed 30% of a household's income, and the homes will remain protected housing.

Rental use can last up to 75 years, starting with a 14-year term that can be extended.

Developers can receive support for up to 60% of the required investment; projects needing more will be handled directly by Casa 47.
