Anwar directs Malaysia's Education Ministry to act firmly against school bullying

Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ordered stronger action against school bullying by the Education Ministry.

He spoke at an event in Kelantan on Oct 31, amid concerns about children’s safety and well-being.

Anwar said cases involving children, including bullying, abuse and suicide, showed the need to strengthen character development and moral values from an early age.

He said schools should teach respect and responsibility as well as aim for academic success.

The Education Ministry and educators are expected to act to protect students and address poor conduct.

Anwar also called for religious education and a broader approach to problems such as drug abuse and crime.
