Implenia wins contract to build new Schaffhausen hospital

Implenia Schweiz AG has been chosen to build a new hospital for Spitäler Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland.

The project is part of a wider effort to modernise the hospitals and provide updated facilities for patients and staff.

Implenia’s bid was valued at about 164.8 million Swiss francs before tax; another source rounded the price to about 165 million.

The hospitals said two bids met their quality requirements, and Implenia received the best overall assessment, with its lower price a decisive advantage.

A potential governance overlap has drawn attention because Raymond Cron sits on Implenia’s board and has chaired the hospitals’ council since April 2024.

The hospitals said the award decision was led by council vice-president Markus Weber, while a hospital council member led the construction commission.

Planning can move forward once the appeal period ends, and construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2027.
