Russian frigate that escorted shadow-fleet tankers spotted in the Baltic
Russian frigate Neustrashimy was spotted heading into the Baltic Sea through Denmark’s Great Belt.
It had spent more than three months near Britain, accompanying tankers described as part of Russia’s shadow fleet.
The frigate had been escorting Russian shadow-fleet tankers in the English Channel, following an earlier deployment by another Russian ship.
No replacement ship has been confirmed to have taken over the patrol near Britain.
Observers say the move may mark the first break in Russia’s continuous presence there since spring.
The change in route does not confirm a return to Russia; the ships may be seeking shelter from a storm.
