World and TSI Holdings agree to merge under a new holding company

Japanese apparel companies World and TSI Holdings agreed to combine their businesses on October 14.

World is based in Kobe, while TSI Holdings is based in Tokyo.

They plan to create a joint holding company, Infinity United, in March 2027, and both companies will become its subsidiaries.

The merger is described as being on equal terms, with TSI chief Takeshi Shimoji set to chair the new company and World chief Nobuteru Suzuki set to lead it as president.

The combined companies would have about 500 billion yen in sales, according to one account.

Japan's apparel market is shrinking as the population ages and fewer children are born, and the companies say the merger can help reduce operating costs such as purchasing.

The new holding company is scheduled to launch in March 2027.
