Indonesian lawmaker praises major drug seizures and urges wider investigations
Indonesian lawmaker Rudianto Lallo praised police chief Suyudi Ario Seto for recent drug enforcement operations.
One operation intercepted a tanker carrying 1.16 tons of ketamine off North Sumatra, according to the report.
Police and partner agencies seized the vessel and arrested its eight crew members, who included seven Indonesians and one foreign national.
In Aceh, authorities raided a shop-house suspected of being used for large-scale meth production, but details about evidence and suspects have not been confirmed.
Lallo said investigators should trace the suppliers and alleged network leaders, not stop at seizures and arrests.
He called for the cases to be pursued as part of the police chief’s first 100 days in office and urged police to continue investigating the suspected production operation.

What people are saying
The seizure of such a large quantity of drugs deserves appreciation. The public needs law enforcement that is real, measurable and has a direct impact on public safety. This is one example of concrete work that should continue.
Do not stop at the evidence that has been seized. The supplier, who controlled the shipment, where the goods were to be distributed, and who financed the operation must be revealed. If a transnational network is involved, it must also be investigated through cooperation between agencies.
What the public needs is consistent law enforcement. Major cases must be followed by investigations into the networks and their main actors. That way, anti-drug efforts will not only result in arrests, but will also help prevent similar crimes from happening again.
