Derksen blames Willem II’s squad for poor start

Johan Derksen says Willem II’s squad is behind its poor results, rather than the coaches who have led the team.

Willem II, based in Tilburg, dismissed John Stegeman and appointed Jurgen Streppel, who has previously managed the club.

The team has two points and no wins after 10 league games, leaving it at the bottom of the Eredivisie.

It drew with AZ and SC Heerenveen, then lost 6-1 to SC Cambuur under interim coach Adrie Koster.

Derksen said technical director Freek Heerkens was responsible for assembling the squad, while TV guest Hélène Hendriks argued Streppel could be a good fit because of his experience and connection to the club.

Streppel is due to lead Willem II against PSV in Eindhoven, as the club tries to secure its first league win.
