Île-de-France approves €7.2 billion rail contract with SNCF
Île-de-France Mobilités and SNCF Voyageurs agreed a new rail contract for the Paris region covering 2026 to 2030.
It commits €7.2 billion to trains, maintenance and service upgrades, including new trains, refurbished vehicles and modernised workshops.
The contract also sets higher punctuality goals, including a rise from 89% to 91% for the RER B by 2030.
Train cancellations caused by staff or equipment shortages will count more directly in performance figures, and financial penalties for poor service are stronger.
Separately, a €3 billion programme will modernise 360 Transilien trains used on seven lines.
Work will upgrade seats, video surveillance and air conditioning, and add passenger information screens; the programme is expected to finish in 2043.
The operators will be judged against tougher service standards as the investment is put to work.
