A man was shot dead by customs officers during an operation at his home in Vire, in France’s Calvados department, on Thursday morning.

The customs officers were carrying out a home search linked to suspected customs offences, and a specialist team was supporting them.

The man, said to be in his 30s, reportedly opened fire when the officers arrived.

The officers returned fire, and the man was killed.
