Forró musician Oswaldinho do Acordeon dies at 72

Brazilian musician Oswaldinho do Acordeon died at 72 on Sunday, October 25, according to announcements by friends.

His cause of death was not disclosed.

Born Oswaldo de Almeida e Silva in Duque de Caxias, he moved to São Paulo as a child and was the son of accordionist Pedro Sertanejo.

He learned the accordion largely on his own and grew up around influential musicians including Luiz Gonzaga, Dominguinhos and Sivuca.

He brought jazz, blues, rock and classical music into forró, a style of Brazilian music rooted in the country's northeast.

He began recording as a child and released more than 20 albums, while also working with artists including Rita Lee, Elba Ramalho and Milton Nascimento.

His experiments helped widen forró's musical range, and his album *Forró in Concert* in 1981 helped bring his work to European audiences.
