Range Rover Sport Dynamic marks JLR’s shift to pricier models in Brazil

Jaguar Land Rover is shifting its strategy in Brazil after ending production of the Evoque and Discovery Sport at its Itatiaia plant in Rio de Janeiro state.

The company now has no new car priced below R$700,000 in Brazil, and its latest launch is the R$1.06 million Range Rover Sport Dynamic.

The plug-in hybrid SUV combines a six-cylinder engine with electric power, can travel about 70 km using only electricity, and has 550 horsepower.

A test at a race track in São Paulo state found that its suspension and cabin quality remain strengths, though its technology is less up to date than some luxury rivals.

The change follows a broader repositioning by JLR and the end of a Brazilian manufacturing effort described as having limited success.

JLR has made no layoffs, but the future of the Itatiaia assembly line depends on a sale to a company willing to build vehicles there.

Chery is in advanced talks to make Omoda, Jaecoo and iCaur models at the plant.
