Caffarel marks 200 years with plans to expand production in Italy
Caffarel marked 200 years since its founding in Turin in 1826 with a celebration at its plant in Luserna San Giovanni, Italy.
The company is part of the Lindt & Sprüngli Group, which has owned it since 1997 and supported its growth while preserving its identity and production methods.
One of its best-known products is the Gianduiotto, a chocolate and hazelnut sweet created in 1865 and still made using an older extrusion method.
The plant has doubled its production volumes in the past five years, helped by investment in a hazelnut roasting centre.
It sends 70% of its output to international markets, and Caffarel products are sold in 49 countries.
From 2027, the plant is due to add a line making Lindt Choco Wafers for global distribution, increasing production capacity and employment.
